Dallastown flextime1/11/2024 I started working at the Amazon plant in Durham in September of this year. There is a shift differential above $15 base rate for wor. That helps out with extra cash while trying to get started on a home based business or other scenarios where you don’t really need the cash. Sorting tasks can get stressful or monotonous but if you sign up as a casual then you can just come in once a month (minimum) to stay employed. It was nice how at the beginning of every shift, there was group stretching to help warm up our muscles. Usually it’s good communication but I didn’t get any notice until I showed up after an hour commute to get there from home. My first night of work was a wasted drive since the orientation person couldn’t make it. I think it was due to not having waited long enough for my anti-competition agreement from an application to the USPS to expire. I worked there less than a month and was fired without explanation. Lots of plastic wrap was used to keep towers of boxes from falling over when they were moved. Sorting wasn’t as bad as having to figure out how to stack them so they didn’t tip over. The second building had no stereo so was very chill except for the rush to keep up with all the boxes coming down that we had to sort and stack on pallets. The music was usually low class to appeal to the type of workers and whoever the manager was that night. One had a stereo that they blasted music during the evening shift. I transferred to a 2nd building during Christmas rush so had 2 experiences. Orientation was boring and lasted a couple hours. When a person is in the trucks unloading, processing boxes through the "sort slide" it would make people cough and make br. The air during processing was not something anyone should breath in. I can only speak about the site that I am at, and reason being is that everytime I wanted to transfer to a better site that has hours they stopped the transfer or would try to threaten or fire me before the transfer could go through. Most of time people just left to go back home instead of dealing with managers or their assistants. Most of the time managers would come by just to antagonize the employees that they did not like. When accidents happened they were not willing to say anything or even get help for the people unless that person stop working. All the managers used a "clique" group to determine who was favored and abused those who not favored to do extra if not all the work.Management did make it hard for 95% of the staff. Good looking females got the hours and was allowed to take breaks most of the time where the rest of the employees were not allowed. If the employee was a good looking female, she was looked at and harrassed on an everyday basis. The managers use favoritism for the people they liked and disliked, this lead into employees shafting one another to get favored. The managers at the site are terrible and they abused their power everyday. The pay would be nice if the hours were there. The workplace that I work is was very terrible.
